Ami Schwab is a psychotherapist at New York Behavioral Health, practicing in both the New York City and Rockville Centre locations. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from St. John’s University in the Child Track and is a licenced psychologist. Ami provides therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), mindfulness, and behavioral parent training.
Ami helps clients of diverse ages, backgrounds, and diagnoses identify their own short-term and long-term goals and then works collaboratively with them to achieve those goals.
Ami specializes in working with children and adolescents together with their parents to decrease conflict and behavioral difficulties while improving child compliance and the parent-child relationships. He has been trained in five different evidence-based parenting programs and has applied his knowledge in individual, family, and group therapy settings. When working with children and adolescents, Ami always works closely with families, schools, and other providers to ensure success in every setting.
Before joining New York Behavioral Health, Ami worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient community mental health centers, an inpatient residential-treatment facility, and a therapeutic nursery. He has successfully provided treatment for a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD (adult and child), relationship difficulties, trauma, and child behavior problems.
