Hypochondriasis

Hypochondriasis is defined as the preoccupation and misinterpretation of bodily symptoms, resulting in fear of having a serious disease or illness. The preoccupation continues to exist even after reassurances from physicians’ medical evaluations. This disorder is often comorbid with mood disorders and anxiety disorders, especially panic disorder. Many of the features of Hypochondriasis (age of onset, tendency to run in families, personality traits, etc.) are similar to those of anxiety disorders.
