Description

Delirium is a mental disorder characterized by confusion, memory loss, disorientation, and impaired consciousness. These symptoms come on suddenly within a matter of hours or days. Most individuals receiving this diagnosis have full recoveries within a few weeks. However, delirium can be fatal if not recognized. Most persons suffering from the disorder are found to have medical, chemical, or neurological issues that are many times the cause of the disturbing behavior, and it is critical that they be swiftly addressed.

Treatment

Treatment is dependent upon what is found from a complete medical and neurological examination of the patient. That is, whatever has caused the erratic behavior classified as delirium must be treated.
