Frequently Asked Questions

If you're new to therapy, here are some common questions.
We're here to help.

NYBH is an out-of-network providerwe do not participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance networks. If you have out-of-network coverage, you may be able to see a provider who isn’t in-network and your insurance company will pay for a portion of the cost. If you don’t know what your out-of-network benefits are for outpatient mental health services, we recommend that you reach out to your insurance company to ask about your reimbursement for your visit.

The cost of therapy at NYBH ranges depending on our therapists’ level of experience and training. We are happy to find an affordable, manageable plan for your financial capacities. If you have out-of-network benefits through your health insurance, we can provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

We accept cash and checks, as well credit cards, and will keep one on file in our secure portal to pay for your sessions.

Most therapy sessions begin by reviewing what’s been going on in your life since last session, what’s been bothering you, and how you have been meeting your goals. You and your therapist then set an agenda, to most efficiently use the session time, taking stock of what went well and what areas may need attention, to best continue on the path to progress.

You will also practice interventions to eliminate the existing problems by carefully analyzing them, and develop skills for better managing them after leaving the session. Some therapists may give you homework to complete after a session, which will encourage you to continue practicing the skills you’ve learned in session and apply them to your everyday life.

How often you schedule therapy depends on a couple factors: your preferences, your therapist’s recommendations, and scheduling and availability. Individual sessions are 45 minutes long. In order to ensure that your therapy meets your goals, you and your therapist will collaborate and check in with one another to determine that your treatment is on track.

Prior to your first appointment, you will receive an invitation to our secure portal via email. Please complete the intake packet sent to you in that invitation, prior to your appointment.
