Erectile Dysfunction or Heart Attack/Stroke Risk: Which do you prefer?

Is erectile dysfunction (ED) associated with regular use of painkillers? A new study that focused on this topic resulted in a positive correlation being found between the two. While the findings certainly do not prove that the medication causes ED, they do raise questions that should be addressed in future investigations.

While the findings certainly do not prove that the medication causes ED, they do raise questions that should be addressed in future investigations.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDS (aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen, and others), are regularly prescribed and/or taken for all types of aches and pains, including arthritic conditions. In addition, aspirin is taken on a daily basis by millions of people to try to reduce the risk for stroke or heart attack. Viagra use may confuse the issue even further.

Note to males: There is absolutely no indication at this time, based on the study’s findings, that anyone should discontinue use of these medications. However, if further research demonstrated a cause and effect relationship between regular NSAID use and ED, would you continue or even start an aspirin-a-day regimen? What do you think public reaction would be to the dilemma this situation might produce?
