How to Recognize the Differences Between Eating Disorders, Disordered Eating, & Dieting [VIDEO]

Our Clinical Director, Dr. Jolie Silva, had the wonderful privilege of virtually sitting down with Denise Limongello, LMSW, a psychotherapist in New York who has special expertise in treating issues related to eating and body image, clinical eating disorders, and all forms of emotional overeating.

There are so many terms floating around food within the mental and behavioral health sphere, and it can sometimes become hard to keep up. You might think to yourself, “How do I know if you have an eating disorder?” “Am I “sick enough” to get help?” “Should I be worried about my thoughts and behaviors around food?”

In this interview, Dr. Silva and Denise talk through it all. We covered some great topics surrounding eating disorders, dieting, and disordered eating, so you can gain some insight on how to best seek support for yourself.

Please note that this interview is just a starting point, and not substitute for therapy with a licensed professional. If you are struggling with disordered eating or an eating disorder, it may be valuable to seek support from a mental health professional.
